Overview

The new Dedham Middle School is a concrete/steel structure with a total area of 130,464 square feet on a 361,656 square foot site. The building has two academic wings that house classrooms and a wing that contains a media center, administrative offices, a kitchen, and common areas, including student dining space, an auditorium, a band classroom, and a gymnasium. Brick walls with colorful window details and gabled roofs make the building a charming addition to the town.

Environmental Aspects

The Dedham School District Administration, the School Committee, the Building Committee, students and teachers all supported greening the new school. The building has many green features that are designed to improve the school's operating performance and to provide a more livable building for students, teachers and staff. Sustainable features include siting for solar access, natural daylighting, high-efficiency equipment, a high-performance building envelope, stormwater collection for toilets and irrigation, and a 30 kW solar electric system.

Owner & Occupancy

The school entered operation in September 2006.
